Before / After example of Vintage 2 Mode
The new look applies in Vintage 2, Black and White, and Analog modes.
Follow our quick tutorial to update your firmware then get back to capturing the moments worth replaying.
What you need
- Your CS-8, charged so the battery gauge needle sits at 50 or higher
- The original Camp Snap SD card, in the camera. If you swapped in a different card, put the original back for now. You can switch back when you're done.
- If you don't have the original Camp Snap SD card any Fat 32 SD card will work. A micro SD card will not work.
- A USB-C cable
- A computer
Find your version
Turn the camera on. Press and hold the MODE button, the one furthest to the right under the Camp Snap logo.
A green Settings screen appears. Read the Version line near the bottom right.
Left: V1.2.6 560 means you have a 560. Right: V1.2.6 with nothing after it means you have a 565.
Which file do I need?
Download only the file for your camera, and don't rename it. Make sure your file name does not end with (1) or any other numbers and/or characters. Only the file name as it appears in the file name above will work.
Install the update
- 1Turn the camera off. Turn the ON/OFF dial all the way to OFF. Leave the SD card in.
- 2Plug the camera into your computer. Use the USB-C port on the bottom of the camera. It shows up as a drive called CAMPSNAP: on a Mac, on your desktop and in the Finder sidebar; on Windows, in File Explorer under This PC.
-
3Open the CAMPSNAP drive. You'll see a folder named DCIM.
Shown on a Mac: your downloaded file on the left, the CAMPSNAP drive and its DCIM folder on the right. On Windows it looks the same in File Explorer.
- 4Drag your downloaded firmware file into the CAMPSNAP drive. Drop it next to the DCIM folder, not inside it.
- 5Eject and unplug. Wait until the copy has fully finished, then eject CAMPSNAP and unplug the cable. On a Mac, drag CAMPSNAP to the Trash or click the eject icon in Finder. On Windows, right-click CAMPSNAP and choose Eject.
- 6Turn the camera on. The update starts on its own. The screen stays black for about 20 seconds and the needles move on their own. That's normal. Leave it alone and let it finish. DO NOT CHANGE ANY DIAL OR POWER OFF THE CAMERA UNTIL YOU HEAR THE CAMERA TURN BACK ON. IF YOU MAKE CHANGES YOU RISK PERMANENT DAMAGE.
-
7Confirm V2.0.0. When the camera restarts, hold MODE again. If the version reads V2.0.0, you're done. Go record home movies.
A finished update reads V2.0.0.
While the update is running
- Don't turn the camera off.
- Don't remove the SD card.
- Don't press the RESET pinhole next to the USB-C port.
If the update doesn't take
Still seeing your old version number? Work down this list.
The file is in the wrong place
The file has to sit at the top level of CAMPSNAP, next to DCIM. If it landed inside DCIM, the camera won't find it. Copy it again to the top level.
The file got renamed
Your computer may have saved it with an extra number, like FW98565A(1).bin or CS8_560(1).bin. Download it again and copy it over with the exact original name.
The SD card isn't FAT32
The CS-8 needs a FAT32 card for the update. Cards 64GB and larger are usually formatted exFAT, and the update won't run on them. The CS-8 also uses a standard SD card, not microSD. Put the original Camp Snap card back in and try again.
The battery was low
Charge until the battery gauge needle is at 50 or higher, then run the update again.
It's the wrong file for your camera
Check your version screen again. If it contains 560, use CS8_560.bin. If it doesn't, use FW98565A.bin. Delete the wrong file from CAMPSNAP before copying the right one.
